Shook the Spot

June 04, 2006

A VERY MERRY SOPRANOS CHRISTMAS . . . THE SOPRANOS — SEASON 6, EPISODE 12 . . . "KAISHA" . . . CHRISSY FUCKS TONY'S GIRL, AJ FUCKS PAULIE'S GIRL . . . 9/11 FOR THE NEW YORK FAMILY . . . JOHNNY ON HIS DEATHBED

Hard to keep your mind from racing after tonight's finale-for-now. This is what's shooting around in Shook's head right now . . .

Little Carmine, whose got all the mediation skills of George Pataki, is back in the picture and refereeing sit-downs that "we're not going to call a sit-down." After his last big return, gallons of blood were shed and we lost a consigliere. Whose demise does Little Carmine's reprise fortell?

Agent Harris was kind enough to set up the suspense that hung over the final fifteen minutes or so tonight. But if the feds know, so soon after it was determined, that one of Tony's men is in danger, then which captain in New York has turned? Is the family headed upstate?

Chrissy's pushing the limits of Tony's loyalty. Will fatherhood keep him straight?

Who provided the pyrotechnics for tonight's big explosion? Mohammed and his sidekick?

And then there's the line that, in Shook's humble, defined the episode. Tony, to a fallen Phil Leotardo, "Nobody ever worried about no-show jobs on their deathbed."

Comments:
You didn't think "He says I look like the Shah of Iran!" defined the episode?

Well, I guess didn't define it--but certainly stole it.

As far as loose ends go, what about those Arabs? Still boozin' at the Bing after all this time... something's up.

The last segment was pretty surreal - Tony wearing that beret, AJ playing Daddy, the whole "Leave it to Beaver" Christmas setting - could it be the calm before the storm?

About Chrissy's Jewish goomah... does anyone really believe Julianna Margulies is what she says she is? My immediate thought was that she's a Fed - don't forget, Jack Bauer became a heroin addict for the job... and with all due respect to the Henry Kissinger theory that women are attracted to power, I don't believe that this particular woman just walked up to Satriales and fell for Tony and then when that didn't work out went to Christopher.

Looking forward to picking up this instant replay next year - but meanwhile, how about that James Woods?
